Lexus IS (XE20) (2005-2013)
The Lexus IS is a compact executive car sold by Lexus since 1999. The IS was originally sold under the Toyota Altezza nameplate in Japan from 1998 (the word Altezza is Italian for “height” or “highness”). The IS was introduced as an entry-level sport model positioned below the ES in the Lexus lineup.
The IS designation stands for “Intelligent Sport”.
The second-generation of the IS was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005 as a pre-production model, with the production version debuting at the 2005 New York International Auto Show that April. Sales of the sedan began worldwide in September and October 2005 as a 2006 model, with the Toyota Altezza name discontinued due to the introduction of the Lexus marque in Japan, and the slow-selling SportCross station wagon version discontinued from the lineup altogether. / source from Wikipedia
